Save Our History

The Caldwell County Historical Society was one of 27 history organizations across the country to receive a 2006 Save Our History community preservation grant. The African-American School preservation project was selected by the History Channel as one of the Top 10 Save Our History projects in the nation. Three Caldwell County Students and two chaperones attended The History Channel’s Save Our History National Honors Event in Washington, D.C., to receive the award and participate in the 2007 Save Our History Youth Summit and National Honors Breakfast. The “Save Our 1926 African-American School” brought community people together, actively engaged children and young people in the preservation of their local history, and communicated the importance of saving local history for future generations.
