It is no secret America is experiencing some of the worst economic times in its history. Unemployment and low wages, urban and environmental decay, limited access to fresh food, dwindling social program funding, and faltering education systems are just a few of the issues our communities are confronting. Tough times have weakened the heartbeat of our communities, leaving them with even tougher problems and nowhere to turn for help.

 

Through America Revisited we will discover those places across our country where people have come together to rescue themselves by generating change from within. Though their stories are different and their cultures, geography, and obstacles varied, their renaissance shares striking similarities, such as a newfound voice, a new sense of community, equality of opportunity, and a greater sense of empowerment.

 

America Revisited will seek out and connect with those communities that have actively chosen to transform their present and shape their future by embracing a new set of values based upon connectedness, cooperation, and community. The series focuses on people from all levels of society whose creative engagement reflects their commitment to the belief in equality and the promotion of social justice in America. Now more than ever, America needs a great story.
